Star Granny Square – Free Crochet Pattern


Materials

Hook: 4.5mm

Scissors

Yarn needle


Yarn

A: Yellow

B: Darker yellow/ gold

C: Light blue

D: Dark blue


Stitches & Abbreviations

(US terms)

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

tr- treble crochet

ss – slip stitch

mr- magic ring


The Star

Using yarn A, make a magic ring/ ch4 method

R1: Ch2, 14dc into mr.


R2: Ch5, sc into 2nd ch from hook, hdc, dc, tr, skip 2 sts, ss into the 3rd.


Repeat 4 more times to form your star.



Star Border

Attach yarn B into any stitch. Sc around the star. There should be 4 sc going up each side and one into each space between the points. 

Note: to make it cleaner, you can sc into the back loop on the stitches you can see. It doesn't really matter where you put them along the ch5.





Square


The first row of the square is worked into the back loops, but you can work into both if you prefer.


Attach yarn C into the back loop of a sc on the left of the point of the star.



R1: ch1, sc into same st, *2hdc, dc, tr into space between points, dc, 2hdc, sc, sc* repeat from * to * 3 times, 2hdc, dc, tr, dc, 2hdc, sc, ss to 1st sc.

Note: skip over the bump from where you ss in the last round.



R2: ch1, sc into same st, 3sc, 2hdc, dc, (tr, ch2, tr) into same st, dc, 2hdc, *4sc, 2hdc, dc, (tr, ch2, tr), dc, 2hdc*. repeat from * to * 2 times, skip the remaining st and ss into first sc. Fasten off.



Border

Attach yarn D into a corner space.

R1: (ch 1, sc, ch2, sc) into corner space, sc to next corner and repeat around the square. Ss to first sc, fasten off.
